Prairie Percussion Workshop 2016!

I can’t believe that this will be the 5th workshop, I know that people say it all of the time, but where does the time go?! I am so excited that this workshop has been able to grow and thrive as a resource for young musicians!

Opportunities

Opportunities

All students are given access and opportunities to develop their skills in all areas of percussion.

Ensembles

Ensembles

Students are grouped with their peers in small ensembles to develop their musical and technical abilities.

Skills

Skills

Students are given the opportunity to develop skills they can take back to their music programs.

The goal of this workshop is for middle and high school students to have the chance to work with professional percussionists, exceptional educators and university percussion majors.  Students attend classes in every area of percussion taught by experts in their specific field. Students also get the chance to work in small percussion ensemble groups that are coached by enthusiastic and talented university students.

This blog post isn’t meant to be a commercial, but a moment for me to say “wow” I can’t believe this thing is a real thing. I am so honoured that all of my dear friends and colleagues take the time to come and share their talents with the students who join us, and I am grateful to my wonderful students who volunteer their time to help mentor young percussionists as a part of this workshop. I believe very strongly in the power of community and this workshop is one of the ways I am working to build the percussion community in Manitoba.  Working with my friends, my colleagues, my students and all of the participants of the workshop and bringing all of these personalities together once a year during this workshop is, to me, the definition of what my teacher calls “drum love.”

So, August 2-5, 2016, this summer, come for the technical and music development, stay for the drum love.
