University of Manitoba Percussion Ensemble

The University of Manitoba Percussion Ensemble had the amazing opportunity to “open” for So Percussion on January 24, 2016 as part of the Winnipeg New Music Festival at the Centennial Concert Hall. We Performed works by Joan Tower and David Lang and had the chance to meet with both composers and to have a Q&A with So Percussion before hearing them play an UNBELIEVABLE concert! It was an amazing day for the UofM Percussion Studio and we are looking forward to taking that energy to our concert on March 20, 2016 in the Great Hall at University College as well as to our studio recital on March 11, 2016 in Eva Clare Hall at 12:30pm.

Concerto Premier

I am so excited and honoured to be premiering a new concerto by Sid Robinovitch for Marimba and Vibraphone with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra at Westminster United Church on January 12, 2016. With only a week (tomorrow) left until the performance I’m starting to get into that weird space before a big show or audition where you suddenly feel like you have lots to do and also like there is nothing left to do.

Millennium Library Concert Series

I am so excited to be giving a noon hour recital at the Millennium Library in the Carol Shields Auditorium on October 1, 2015.

I will be playing a few of my favourite pieces for marimba, including pieces by Emmanuel Sejourne and Julie Spencer. I treasure these opportunities to play some piece that feel a little like old friends.

I also love taking a moment to look to the future and what is coming next, and in that spirit I have asked one of my promising students Cameron Denby to play a little something and who knows, maybe we’ll even drum up a little something to play together… Get it, drum up…?! I guess that joke would would work a little better if this was a snare drum recital… but that would not be as relaxing for a lunch hour concert…
